Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 5UX

Few hotels can boast their own waterfall, but somewhere in its 40 acres of private land, Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa has ticked that too-often-empty box. Overlooking the beautiful Derwentwater Lake, where imposing mountain ranges are mirrored in the glassy water, this stately Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence-awarded retreat is everything you could want from a stay in the Lake District.

The Lake District National Park is the largest protected National Park in England and boasts miles of mountainous scenery, lakes and oak woodland. The hotel is located in the Borrowdale Valley, south of Derwentwater Lake, and is perfectly located for both lowland activity and hill-walking. There are a number of National Trust sites around, plus numerous olde-world pubs and country restaurants. Besides exploring the stunning national park, the leisure options here are plentiful. Should your dramatic surrounds tempt you out of your room, wander out on the wooden pier and hire a paddleboard, or kayak for a peaceful way to absorb the scenery.
